Reset Earth: Toolkits for engaging learner experiences

Zamia Media partnered with a wonderful South African organization, Roof Top, in supporting the UNEP Ozone Secretariat to prepare and launch Reset Earth, a set of free toolkits to support teachers looking for creating engaging learner experiences with new material on environmental awareness and protection.

In commemoration of the International Day of Education in January 2022, the UNEP Ozone Secretariat has launched Reset the Earth, a set of free toolkits to develop innovative teacher lesson plans and student workbooks. Understanding the need of creating innovative virtual learning material, this initiative combines animation and gamification, targeting for the education of tweens (8-12-years-old) to increase their awareness about the importance of ozone layer and environmental protection. The toolkits have also been adapted for print and the episodes are available in a comic format for universal access.

The Outcomes

In this Spirit, Reset Earth is guided to build-up four global competencies dimensions: (i) examine local, global and intercultural issues, (ii) understand and appreciate the perspectives and world views of others, (iii) engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions, and (iv) take action for collective well-being and sustainable development.

About the UNEP Ozone Secretariat

Having as mission "To facilitate and support the parties to the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol and other stakeholders in implementing actions to heal and protect the ozone layer, thus protecting human health, life on planet and minimizing impacts on climate”, the UNEP Ozone Secretariat has launched Reset the Earth in their education platform. The Ozone Secretariat is based in Nairobi, Kenya, housed within the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It is the administrative office for two very important ozone protection treaties/agreements, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
